Rip dear anne❤. Im not Jewish but my adopted uncle joel was and he made it out of Auschwitz. I miss him especially with reading annes diary , and joels book too. Just search for joel edelman and Auschwitz. Ty anne for writing this at such a painful horrific time, and my uncle joel, known as joe the barber, for living through it again. I lost touch over time, but am looking to find him via holocaust museum.

Faber entkam jedoch nach Deutschland, dessen Staatsbürgerschaft er wie alle ausländischen SS-Freiwilligen durch einen Erlass von Adolf Hitler erhalten hatte. Er konnte also nicht ausgeliefert werden. Deutsche Ermittlungen in den fünfziger Jahren scheiterten, weil die Niederländer nicht mit der immer noch von Nazis durchsetzten deutschen Justiz zusammenarbeiteten. Kurz vor Fabers Tod gab es Pläne, das in lebenslange Haft umgewandelte Urteil in Deutschland zu vollstrecken. Weihnachten 1952 floh er gemeinsam mit den Kriegsverbrechern Willem Polak (1915-1993), Herbertus Bikker (1915-2008), Antoine Touseul (1921-1991), Sander Borgers (1917-1985), Willem van der Neut (1919-1983) und Jacob de Jonge aus dem „Kuppelgefängnis“ von Breda (Niederlande) in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland und setzte sich mit Hilfe eines bundesdeutschen Polizisten und ehemaligen Kriegskameraden über die Grenze in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland ab. Dort lehnte man wiederholt die Auslieferung ab, da er als SS-Freiwilliger aufgrund eines Erlasses von 1943 als deutscher Staatsangehöriger galt und Deutsche nach damaligem Recht nicht ausgeliefert werden konnten. Das Landgericht Düsseldorf lehnte 1957 die Aufnahme eines Hauptverfahrens gegen Faber mit der Begründung in dubio pro reo (lat. „Im Zweifel für den Angeklagten“) ab, da die Niederlande die Vorlage von Beweismitteln verweigert hätten. Am 25. November 2010 erließen die Niederlande einen Europäischen Haftbefehl gegen Faber. Am 18.
